  • Nigeria stands solidly behind Akin Adesina in his re-election bid as President of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

We will work with all leaders, and stakeholders in AfDB, to ensure that he is re-elected, on the strength of his achievements during this first term.

  • I have signed an Amendment to Executive Order 008, on the Voluntary Offshore Assets Regularization Scheme (VOARS). This Amendment will strengthen the implementation and enforcement of the Order, which I originally signed in October 2018.

VOARS grants Nigerians and Nigerian entitles, who have defaulted in declaration of offshore assets, the opportunity to voluntarily declare and regularize these assets. There will be severe penalties for defaulters, and for the financial institutions that enable them.

  • In my meeting with the Governors today, I informed them that I have directed the Presidential Task Force on Covid-19 to work very closely with all State Governors. To succeed in containing this pandemic we have to improve collaboration.

I also stressed the need for extensive public education and enlightenment. We need to continue to educate and persuade Nigerians to accept the reality of the situation, and do all that is necessary to stay safe.
